Ridgeway Mayor Charlene Herring, center, and Town Councilman Don Prioleau presented Ridgeway’s 2016 Entrepreneur of the Year award to Larry Sharpe, left; his wife Eileen and their granddaughter, Lakyn Fowler. The Sharpes own The Farm at Ridgeway, and Fowler is the event coordinator. “Larry and his family have contributed greatly to our local economy by owning and operating several businesses in the Ridgeway area for many years,” Herring said when presenting the award last week. “But it is The Farm at Ridgeway that has won our hearts and brought people from across South Carolina to Ridgeway and Fairfield County. And we are thankful to this family for that.”

Senator Creighton Coleman and Representative MaryGail Douglas present a proclamation honoring Sarah McMaster, center, for her 39 years of service as Director of the Fairfield County Public Library. During the Sunday afternoon retirement party, many town and government officials and members of the community thanked McMaster and wished her well.

Carrying the Torch –
WINNSBORO (May 6, 2016) — Fairfield County Sheriff Will Montgomery and Amber Jones carry the Special Olympics torch through downtown Winnsboro last Friday. The FCSO partnered with the Winnsboro Department of Public Safety, Fairfield County Detention Center, S.C. Department of Probation, Pardon and Parole, and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources to bring awareness to the Special Olympics which will be held in the next few weeks. Also helping carry the torch were James Bowman and Hannah Bass.

Jeep Delivers –
Mayor J. Michael Ross presented a check during the Monday evening Council meeting for $1,000 to Blythewood’s Jeep Rogers YMCA for its annual fundraising campaign. Accepting the donation are representatives of the YMCA, from left, Tiffani Moore, Brad Lewis (manager of the Blythewood office of Mid Carolina Credit Union) and Katie Litton.

RIDGEWAY (May 5, 2016) — Putting the finishing touches on art displays in The Century House Tuesday evening for this weekend’s Arts on the Ridge festival are Virginia Lacy, President of the Fairfield County Council on Art, and Phyllis Guttierrez, Chairwoman of Arts on the Ridge. The Festival is set for Friday (6 – 8 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). For more information see page 9.

FMH Foundation Honors –
Elizabeth Martin (left), well–known retired educator and longtime member of Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation board, was honored recently by the FMH Foundation as an emeritus member. She recently served as board secretary. “Mrs. Martin has been the consummate board member in every way,” Mike Quinn (right), FMH President said. “I am delighted to know she still plans to support us as an emeritus board member in ways only she can do.”

Blythewood Chamber of Commerce executive director Mike Switzer and assistant Kitty Kelly show off the Chamber’s temporary office located in McNulty Plaza after recently closing the doors on the group’s Blythewood Road office. Switzer told The Voice that the Chamber has been offered the space by the owners of the Plaza until which time it becomes leased.

BLYTHEWOOD (Feb. 18, 2016) — ‘Welcome to The Roaring Twenties’ was the theme for the 2016 Miss Blythewood High School pageant held in the school’s auditorium on Saturday night. Of the 15 contestants, crowns were won by Meredith Covert, left, Miss Freshman and Miss Grand Talent; Mollie Hanna, Miss Sophomore; Zaylee Butler, Miss Blythewood High School; Carlisle Cooper, Miss Junior and Miss Fundraiser and Michele Armstrong, Miss Senior. Megan McCuthcheon was voted Miss Congeniality.
